Forty-seven years, and I still answer my own phone.
I started in this business in 1979, on the employee benefits side at Aetna. Back then, insurance meant showing up at an employer’s office with a paper folder and explaining coverage face to face. No portals, no hold music. Just a conversation. I built my career on that, and it’s still how I work today.
Over the next four decades I worked both sides of this business — inside a hospital, inside two different health plans — watching the paperwork get thicker every year. Networks multiplied. Rules changed constantly. Most people I talked to just wanted someone to tell them straight what their coverage actually meant.
When I opened my own agency, I could have spread myself across a dozen carriers. Instead I chose to focus on Capital Health Plan, because after years working directly with them, I know their plans better than anyone else in Tallahassee. That’s not a limitation. That’s the whole point.
